From Burner to Masterpiece

  • Shrimp Toast

White bread, shrimp, egg white yolk and starch. Finding the right temperature for frying was a challenge. Might use an air fryer next time.

  • Chocolate Banana Bread

It was supposed to be a bright yellow banana bread with chocolate chips. One of the first successful baking attempts during COVID though.

  • Fried Chicken (3 Flavors)

Plain, gochujang and five-spice fried chicken. The aroma of five-spice lingered in the apartment for three days.

  • Egg Tarts

I had to be very cautious with the tart fillings, making sure not to cook the yolk while mixing it with vanilla infused cream, otherwise, it would have been a steamed egg.

  • Ribeye with Chimichurri

The chimichurri sauce, made with a blend of herbs, garlic, and vinegar, perfectly complemented the ribeye. The flavors were even better as I fermented it for a day.

  • Mulled Wine

Perfect winter drink for me. It does not give me a headache like wine, but I can still enjoy the aroma.

  • Oxtail Soup & Rice

The soup took 8 hours to boil (along with pouring more water). Started with a morning coffee, and it was done by sunset.

  • Cajun Seafood

Old Bay Seasoning, shrimp, potatoes and mined garlic. It was a savory mix of spice and seafood.

  • French Onion Soup

Gruyere cheese is probably the best cheese to use for the soup. Baguettes become soggy when paired with soup, but it somehow enhances the flavor.

  • Korean Fried Chicken & Guacamole

Homemade guacamole was not only tastier, but it also cost less than store-bought options. The fried chicken turned out great as well.

  • Motsunabe

I had to boil the intestines and pour out the water multiple times to reduce the grease. It is one of my favorite Japanese dishes.

  • Salmon with Yogurt and Rosemary

I cooked some salmon for my friend who kindly offered his place to hang out. Men do not talk much when they eat, and that is the best compliment you can get.

  • Braised Oxtail

I should have removed some of the fat before braising it, as the sauce has become too oily. Garnishing it with pine nuts helped improve the taste.

  • Spicy Shrimp

I boiled shrimp in a little bit of white wine and added a sprinkle of cilantro for a nice kick of flavor.

  • Briskets & BBQ sauce

Briskets took 6 hours to cook, baking and broiling combined. A brisket without BBQ sauce is like a cake without frosting.

  • Southern Chili

It may not be a fancy grandmother recipe like my friends', but it still did the job. It was a delightful soup that paired well with hot dogs.

  • Mango Ice Cream

Crafting a mango ice cream straight from the ChatGPT recipe - with little more mango. It worked.
